Brenda GarrandBrenda Garrand, CEO and Founder of Garrand – a Portland based marketing agency, will be our Keynote speaker at the 2011 Technology Awards Gala on June 23rd, with a presentation that promises to “change the way we do business.”

Her presentation will touch on challenges facing Maine technology businesses with insights into how to grow and compete in the future.

Brenda’s experience as a third generation entrepreneur is relatable to many technology firms in Maine. Garrand represents clients of all sizes including H.P. Hood, Maine Medical Center, FairPoint Communications, OSRAM/Sylvania, Gorham Savings Bank and Dunkin’ Donuts. She is a nationally recognized branding expert whose Golden Threads™ methodology is used nationwide.

Her firm was chosen by Advertising Age as one of the top 30 Best Places to Work in Media and Marketing, and the only New England company on the list. Recent recognition in Maine include the 2011 “Women of Influence Award” by Maine Today Media, 2011 TWIN (Tribute to Women in Industry) Award from the Maine Women’s Fund, and she was just inducted into the Junior Achievement Hall of Fame.

Within the community she has served on the Board of Directors of the United Way of Greater Portland, Girl Scouts of Kennebec Council, the Cumberland Club, board member/treasurer of the Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority, the Maine Woman’s Forum, Maine & Co. and the Board of Visitors of the Edmund S. Muskie School of Public Service.

Brenda devotes much of her time to educating young business professionals, and is a strong supporter of the Southern Maine Community College. The center’s goal is to use alternative ways to meet the needs of its students and contribute to the social economy of the region. Brenda has a degree in Art History from Bates College, which she likes to say, “…dispels Click and Clack’s contention that art history is the most useless degree in academia.” Given her accomplishments, we would have to agree.

About the event: The Technology Awards Gala is Northern New England’s most comprehensive and exciting celebration of achievement in technology. It brings together founders, leaders, decision-makers and key executives from the technology companies that are driving the economy today and that will be paving the way into the future.

The Awards Gala is one of TechMaine’s two most prominent events of the year, recognizing the efforts of outstanding contributions through a nomination process. We have five achievement awards and four Web awards; all recognizing outstanding companies.

About TechMaine: TechMaine has been advancing technology in Maine for the last 20 years through workforce development, legislative advocacy, and community building among technology professionals.
