DRUPALug people: Help me Test the Forums Function

4 replies [Last post]

Who better to help us test the discussion forums than DRUPALug-ers? The objective is to host discussion forums for each of the user groups/SIGS that want one. Group members should be able to participate either by visiting the site or by sending/receiving messages via email.

We have the basic components in place now, but need to do some testing. (Functions that involve mail always seem to need lots of testing.)

Here's how you can help:

(1) You need to be logged in, and to "join" the user group online.

In other words, if you haven't already done so, register on the site (free) log in (free) and on the main DrupalUG page (http://www.techmaine.com/drupalug) click the "join" link in the "Group Membership" menu on the right, and follow the scree instructions to confirm that you want to join.

(2) Once you have "joined," you will see links in the Group Membership menu for the forum, and to post new topics, etc.

The default setup is that once you join you'll receive an email when someone posts a new forum topic or reply. You can then respond either by replying via email or by visiting the site.

(3) Here's the expected protocol:

  • Use "Create Forum Topic to create a new topic in the forum -- that is, to start a new thread.
  • Respond to an existing forum post to participate in an existing thread.
  • Contact us if something doesn't seem to be working right.

A few other things:

  • You can change your email notifications settings, if you want, by going to My Account >> Notifications.
  • New Forum Topics for DrupalUG are shown on the main DRUPALug page in the announcements section, but all the comments/replies are not shown there. Go to the thread to see the discussion.

So how can we help?

I guess the header says it all.

Just wondering how we can help test this other than simply using it?

My only question at this point is: Is there the capacity to hang files on  this list or does one have to post them somewhere else and provide a link?

I am glad to see this forum.
I drove to Westbrook for the first meeting of this group, but it is a long way to go after a long day. I am new to Drupal, and trying to introduce it to a few high school students. We have got an in-house server operating and are experimenting with it. I wonder if there is anyone in the Rockland area who can join us between 8:00 - 9:15 or 12:45 - 2:00 and make some suggestions on how to proceed.

RE: TechMaine - Drupal User Group (DRUPALug) - DRUPALug people:

Mostly just use it and report anything that doesn't seem to fly properly.

On files: I think the Mail2Web module can be configured to allow attachments, but for the short term, to keep things simple, if someone wants to post files just send them to me and I'll post them. They will then appear in the files list on the bottom of the /drupalug page, and there will be a note in the Announcement section so people know something has been posted.

In the long term, if it looks like uploading files would be useful, and used enough to warrant building out a feature, I'll see what the options are.
