Why should I create an account?
TechMaine is a community site, and as such, much of our content is not developed for the general public. You can view most of the site without logging in. Once you login you should be able to go anywhere without being held up with multiple "fill this out" forms. Registering for events will be quicker plus you'll be able to track your registrations and see the groups to which you belong.
This is a dynamic site and there will be significant value for logged in users. Logged in users will have access to more content than anonymous users and TechMaine members will see even more information. TechMaine is a member supported community, and because of their support, members will derive the most value from this site.
We do not and will not divulge your name and address to other companies that do not represent us and will not incessantly spam you. Our goal is to make sure that information you provide to us is kept private unless you choose to make it public.
We understand it's somewhat "unweblike" to require a login, but this site is designed to support Maine's tech community. If we discourage some trolls, that's OK.
What are the different levels of engagement on the TechMaine site?
For those of you that have spent some time cruising the TechMaine website, you know that we have a great deal of information online. The TechMaine site can be a bit overwhelming to navigate and sometimes difficult to drill down into the information that you want. Here's an overview, with a focus on User Groups and Forums, of the different 'permissions' that are granted on the TechMaine site depending on your logged in status.
Many folks who attend the User Group meetings are not 'official' User Group 'members'. Attending meetings doesn't automatically subscribe you to a group - it's an opt-in process. As you see below, becoming a User Group 'member' opens up a bit more information to you. Signing up to become a 'member' of a user group is free and open to everyone. You aren't required to be a TechMaine Member to join a UG or SIG - though we hope that UG members are or will become TechMaine Members.
