December's meeting: Installing Drupal 6.6

It looks as if we might have a nice turnout for tonight's meeting. I'm hoping we wil get some "newbies" hooked on using Drupal, by showing that it's really not all that hard to get going.
On the other hand, if there are problems with the installation, that will be instructive as well. See you tonight!

I have had this problem with
I have had this problem with both Drupal and Joomla! set ups on hosted sites (MHS). In all cases the register_globals were actually OFF but the application said they were ON. Apparently this is a common issue with hosted solutions - MHS didn't seem too concerned.
We got about 99% of the way through the new install at the December DRUPALug meeting, and hit a barrier: register_globals was on, and I didn't have access to the php.ini file to change it.
Later I figured out a work-around, and the techevents.me site was up and running in just about half a minute. If anyone in the group experiences this same probem, let me know and I'll send along what I did. Later on I'll have the server host company change it properly.
